PRONG – Rude Awakening (1996)

Formed in New York City in 1986, Prong emerged from the hardcore punk and thrash metal underground before developing a distinctive sound that combined groove metal, industrial influences and alternative metal. Led by guitarist and vocalist Tommy Victor, the band became particularly influential during the 1990s through their precise, mechanical guitar riffs, unconventional rhythms and aggressive yet memorable songwriting. Released in 1996 through Epic Records, Rude Awakening was their fifth studio album, following the critically acclaimed Cleansing (1994), and represented a further exploration of industrial metal. Produced by Terry Date and Tommy Victor, the album features bassist Paul Raven, drummer Ted Parsons and additional electronic programming by Charlie Clouser of Nine Inch Nails. Tracks such as "Controller", "Caprice", "Rude Awakening", "Unfortunately", "Face Value" and "Slicing" demonstrate the band's increasingly sophisticated integration of heavy, syncopated guitar riffs, electronic textures, programmed elements and dark melodic arrangements. Compared with their earlier thrash-oriented recordings, Rude Awakening places greater emphasis on hypnotic grooves, controlled aggression and atmospheric production, reflecting the industrial metal movement of the mid-1990s. The album marked the end of Prong's original major-label period before the band entered a lengthy hiatus, making it an important chapter in their musical evolution.

Visual inspection shows the cassette and tape to be in generally acceptable condition and it appears playable, but due to the age and nature of used cassettes, playback quality cannot be guaranteed.

If the exposed tape strip appears dusty or dirty, it may require manual cleaning before playback. Experienced cassette collectors will generally be familiar with the appropriate cleaning methods and handling precautions for older tapes.
