Aiden were an American rock band formed in Seattle in 2003. Led by Wil Francis, they combined post-hardcore and punk with gothic imagery, horror references and the theatrical style of the mid-2000s alternative scene.
These releases trace Aiden’s development from Nightmare Anatomy through the melodic Conviction and back towards the darker attack of Knives and Disguises.
1. Conviction
Released in 2007, Conviction moved away from Aiden’s aggressive early sound towards melodic alternative rock and pop punk.
“She Will Love You,” “Teenage Queen,” “Hurt Me” and “Moment” feature cleaner production and larger choruses. “One Love” reflects a gothic-rock influence, while “Darkness” and “Son of Lies” retain some earlier intensity.
A worthwhile album for listeners who prefer Aiden’s more melodic side.
2. Disguises
Released in 2011, Disguises combines horror punk, hardcore and heavy metal. Gang vocals and rougher production give it a confrontational character.
“Horror Queen,” “Malevolent Conversion” and “A Portrait of the Artist” establish the dark mood. “Hysteria,” “Perfect Muse” and “Walk Among the Dead” maintain its aggressive momentum, while “Shine” features Ash Costello.
Recommended for listeners who enjoy Aiden at their darkest and most theatrical.
3. Knives (with Slipcase)
Released in 2009, Knives was a deliberate return to fast, angry punk after Conviction.
“Killing Machine,” “Let the Right One In” and “Scavengers of the Damned” begin the album with little pause. “Elizabeth,” “Crusifiction,” “The Asylum” and “Excommunicate” continue its mixture of horror imagery, rapid drumming and raw guitars.
Short, direct and aggressive, with a slipcase that makes this edition more attractive to collectors.
4. Nightmare Anatomy
Released in 2005, Nightmare Anatomy was Aiden’s breakthrough and remains their defining album.
“Knife Blood Nightmare,” “The Last Sunrise” and “Die Romantic” combine dramatic choruses with screamed vocals and post-hardcore energy. “Genetic Design for Dying,” “Breathless,” “Unbreakable” and “It’s Cold Tonight” demonstrate its consistency.
If you are buying only one Aiden album, this is the safest place to begin.
5. Rain in Hell (CD + DVD)
Released on Halloween 2006, Rain in Hell bridges Nightmare Anatomy and Conviction.
The CD includes “The Suffering,” “We Sleep Forever” and the acoustic “Silent Eyes,” alongside covers of Billy Idol’s “White Wedding” and the Misfits’ “Die, Die My Darling.”
The DVD contains a live set from Chicago’s House of Blues, additional hometown performances and videos for “Knife Blood Nightmare,” “Die Romantic” and “The Last Sunrise.”
A compact release with enough exclusive audio and video material to interest established fans and collectors.
