(Used) EFFIGY Effigy CASSETTE TAPE
EFFIGY – Effigy
Formed in 1998 in Takamatsu, Japan, Effigy were a metallic crust punk band known for combining the dark, apocalyptic atmosphere of British stenchcore with the aggression of Japanese hardcore and old-school extreme metal. Drawing heavily from bands such as Amebix, Antisect, Hellbastard, Axegrinder and early Celtic Frost, Effigy developed a distinctive sound characterised by heavily distorted guitar riffs, pounding D-beat rhythms, harsh vocals and ominous, metal-influenced arrangements. This self-titled cassette compilation, distributed by Decomposition Crust Distro, brings together material from several of the band's underground releases, including the Evil Fragments 12-inch, split recordings with Äpärät and Häväistys, the Grinding Metal Massacre EP and their collaboration with American crust metal band Hellshock. These recordings document Effigy's development from raw, primitive metallic crust towards a heavier and more accomplished sound, combining the bleak atmosphere of classic UK crust with the intensity of Japanese underground punk. An excellent introduction to Effigy's recorded output and the metallic crust revival of the late 1990s and early 2000s.
