BOMBARDER – Bez Milosti (1991)
Formed in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia, in 1986, Bombarder were among the pioneering speed/thrash metal bands of the former Yugoslav underground, developing a raw, uncompromising sound influenced by the aggression of early European thrash and speed metal. Released in 1991 through Explosive Records and Panonija Koncert, Bez Milosti (meaning Without Mercy) was their second full-length album, following Speed Kill (1989). Recorded at Vogue Studio in Sarajevo, the album features nine tracks of ferocious speed/thrash metal driven by razor-sharp guitar riffs, relentless drumming, pounding bass and Nenad Kovačević's distinctive rough, snarling vocals. Songs such as "Glasnik Smrti", "Speed Metal Manijak", "Bez Milosti", "Kopač Grobova", "Noći Užasa" and "Metalna Neman" demonstrate the band's commitment to fast, aggressive songwriting with memorable riffs and an unmistakably old-school character. While sharing musical similarities with early Sodom, Kreator, Destruction and Exciter, Bombarder maintained their own identity through lyrics in their native language and a particularly rugged production style. Released shortly before the devastating conflicts that engulfed Yugoslavia during the 1990s, Bez Milosti captures an important period in the country's heavy metal history and remains a compelling example of Eastern European underground speed/thrash metal.
