CRUEL FORCE – The Rise of Satanic Might (2010)
Formed in Germany in 2008, Cruel Force are a blackened thrash metal band deeply rooted in the raw aggression of the 1980s underground metal movement, drawing strong influences from early Sodom, Kreator, Destruction and Bathory. Their debut full-length album, The Rise of Satanic Might, released in 2010, delivers nine tracks of ferocious black/thrash metal characterised by rapid-fire drumming, razor-sharp guitar riffs, primitive yet powerful production and Carnivore's harsh, venomous vocals. Songs such as "Witches Curse", "Satanic Might", "Forces of Hades", "Leather and Metal" and "Deathstrike" demonstrate the band's commitment to old-school Teutonic thrash, combining relentless speed with dark, memorable riff arrangements. The album also includes a cover of Bathory's "Necromansy", acknowledging the pioneering Swedish band's influence on extreme metal. Unlike many modern blackened thrash recordings that deliberately favour thin or excessively lo-fi production, The Rise of Satanic Might maintains a muscular, aggressive sound without sacrificing its underground character. A formidable debut that captures the spirit of first-wave black metal and early German thrash, appealing particularly to listeners who appreciate the primitive ferocity of In the Sign of Evil, Endless Pain and Sentence of Death.
